Marcus Broussard Jr. was appointed by the Governor in August of 1958 as Abbeville first City Judge upon creation of that position by the Louisiana Legislature. He was re-elected to that position in 1960 and held that position without opposition until retirement in 1984. Warren A. Perrin, CODOFIL President, said, "As a member of the largest family in Vermilion Parish, Judge Broussard has dedicated his active life to the law, his community and family."

Judge Broussard was born in Abbeville on February 14, 1929, eldest child of Marcus A. Broussard Sr. and Muriel Alice Brady. He has one brother, Brady Broussard, the Mayor of Abbeville, and one sister, Flo B. Guidry of Abbeville. He was educated in the Catholic and public schools of Abbeville, and graduated from high school at Saint Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis in 1946.

He then obtained a BA degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and then attended law school at Loyola University of the South in New Orleans where he graduated in 1955. He was admitted to practice of law in the State of Louisiana on June 10, 1955. While at Loyola, he received the 1953 Dean's Award which is given annually to the student who maintained the highest grade point average during the first year of law school. He was in Alpha Sigma Nu National Honor Society, Blue Key, and on the Loyola Law Review.

Broussard enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard in 1946 as a Private, received commission as a Second Lieutenant, Infantry, in 1952, promoted to First Lieutenant in 1956 and was Honorably Discharged from the Army of the United States on January 14, 1958.

Judge Broussard has practiced law in Abbeville since 1955, first with his late father, Marcus A. Broussard Sr., as Broussard & Broussard and later with Paul G. Moresi, Jr., as Broussard, Broussard & Moresi, Ltd. After Mr. Moresi left the firm, he and his father continued to practice law as Broussard and Broussard until his father's death in 1996. Joining them in 1986 in the practice of law was his youngest son, Edward B. Broussard who was elected City Court Judge of Abbeville.

In 1962, local American Legion and the Superintendent of Schools selected Broussard to organize and run the "moot court" portion of the annual Student Day Government program for Vermilion Parish high school students. He directed this outstanding program for 14 years.

Judge Broussard was selected as Abbevilles "Outstanding Citizen" for 1963. He served as President of the Abbeville Human Relations Council in 1965 and 1966 and was a member for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Abbeville Kiwanis Club, served as its President for two years, and was twice selected it’s "Outstanding Member" in 1963 and 64. Broussard also served as chairman of the Kiwanis Fishing Rodeo from 1967 through 1970.

He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce for many years, was president of the Chamber from 1965-1967, was a member and past president of the Abbeville Country Club, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree Knight.)

By appointment of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Broussard sat as Judge pro- tempore on the Fifteenth Judicial District Court from 1982 to 1990 and from 1997 to 1998. Since 1990, he has been appointed to serve as judge pro-tempore or ad hoc in over one-fourth the district courts in this state. He has been married to the former Barbara Ann Schlesinger since 1951 and is the father of six children, eight grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
