Janie Bulliard

Bulliard, who was nominated by Brenda Comeaux Trahan, is a native of Ville Platte, Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. She met her husband, Ed Bulliard while attending LSU; they married in 1952
and are the parents of eight children – Melissa, Suzy, Cindy, Edmond, Michael, Benjamin, Mary and Camille, and several grand and great grandchildren. They raised their family in St. Martinville where they have lived for most of the 59 years of their marriage. Bulliard is interested in reading, genealogy, local history, independent study and fitness. She first served on a civic committee in 1961 when the statue of an Attakapas Indian was proposed and subsequently erected on St. Martinville’s Church Square.

Through the years Bulliard has authored and/or co-authored books and articles on local history and genealogy; served on committees that supported La Maison Duchamp, established downtown St. Martinville as well as the Old Castillo Hotel/Mercy High School building on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. With co-founder Patricia Resweber, she served on the St. Martinville Tourism Commission that established the Acadian Memorial.

She chaired the committee that researched and created the Wall of Names and assisted artist Robert Dafford in designing the mural ‘The Arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana’. She currently serves on the Centennial Celebration committee commemorating 100 years of the founding of Evangeline Parish including a bronze statue of Longfellow’s heroine, the Parish namesake to stand on the courthouse grounds.

Recently elected treasurer of the Acadian Memorial Foundation Board, Bulliard also continues her duties of managing the online store and the Ensemble Encore Acadian genealogy database.
