Robert Landreneau *
Promoted Cajun French through Le Théâtre Cadien

For decades, Robert Landreneau and Jim Viator have been involved in Le Théâtre Cadien which produced full length plays in French. Their goal was to bring Cajun French to local communities and to demonstrate pride in the Cajun language and culture by speaking Cajun French in public.
Robert Landreneau was born in 1950 on his father’s birthday, December 9, in Ville Platte, LA. He graduated from Sacred Heart High in 1968 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of New Orleans in 1975. In 1982, he received a master’s degree from LSU in social work. Currently, he holds an LCSW license in social work and is retired after a 40-year career in the mental health field. Landreneau lives in St. Landry parish with his wife of 30 years, Anne Boisvert, who is originally from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada.
Landreneau has spoken Cajun French all of his life, which he credits to both of his grandmothers. For 15 years, Robert was involved in Le Théâtre Cadien, which he credits Cajun activist Amanda Lafleur with creating. The theatrical group produced full length plays in French. The goal was to bring Cajun French to local communities and to demonstrate pride in the Cajun language and culture by speaking Cajun French in public.
