Tony Delafose*
Well known Zydeco and boogie musician from the Mamou and Eunice area of South Louisiana.
Inducted on July 29, 2000

Tony’s career as a musician began in his father’s band, John Delafose and The Eunice Playboys. He performed in Africa, Germany, France, Martinique, and across the United States. He would continue to grace the stage with his own band Tony Delafose and Friends. He was honored to play with his brother’s band, Geno Delafose and The French Rocking Boogie. In addition, he played with his godchild Gerard Delafose and The Zydeco Gators, Leo Thomas (uncle), Major Handy, Corey Ledet, Preston Frank, Willis Prudhomme and many more.
Tony was a dynamic and talented musician with an unmatched passion for his craft. He spent much of his bright life traveling the world and meeting people from all walks of life. While the bass guitar was his first love, Tony enjoyed many other instruments, including drums, scrub board, and accordion.
Tony loved and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Tony was one of the kindest souls on this planet. He was a fun-loving and generous man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. Much like his role as a bass player, he kept everything moving rhythmically and melodically for everyone connected to him. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. Tony was a bright light in this often-difficult world. He passed away June 30, 2022 and will be missed by so many of his friends and family members.
